Honors: In June, 2012, Walter was honored by the Arkansas Bar Association and Arkansas Bar Foundation as “The Outstanding Attorney in the State of Arkansas for 2011-2012.” In 1988,  Walter was invited to membership in the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been a member of the College for the past 25 years. Membership in the College is limited to one percent of the total number of attorneys in a given state. He has been named annually in Best Lawyers in America since that publication began; Best Lawyers in Arkansas since that publication began and as a Mid-South Super Lawyer   

Educational and Professional Background: Walter obtained a dual B.S. and Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Arkansas in 1966. He is admitted to practice in all Arkansas State Courts, the Eastern and Western District Courts of Arkansas, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He is a member of the Arkansas Bar Association and Washington County Bar Association. He is a past president of the Washington County Bar Association. Walter began his legal career in 1966 with the Fayetteville firm of Putman, Davis and Bassett where he made partner in 1970. The firm was later known as Davis, Cox & Wright. After 34 years of practice in that firm, Walter established the firm of Cox, Cox & Estes, PLLC. Walter has been engaged in the full time practice of law in Fayetteville for 46 years. Walter limits his practice to the defense of physicians in medical malpractice litigation and has done so for the past 35 years. He is a frequent guest lecturer to medical groups on issues involving risk management and litigation.

Personal:  Walter graduated from high school in Forrest City, Arkansas, in 1960. He began his undergraduate education at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1960. After completing three years of undergraduate education, he enrolled in the University of Arkansas School of Law and upon graduation in 1966, received a Bachelor of Science degree as well as his Juris Doctorate degree. He is married to Judi Cox, and they have six children, John, Lance, Wes, Brian, Brook and Ashley. They also have thirteen grandchildren.  Walter has been an avid Razorback fan for more than fifty years and especially enjoys Razorback football, basketball and baseball. He and Judi enjoy traveling, cooking and being together.
